Imagine how one small bag can make a large difference… The Giving Bag Project began as a distribution project during The Giving Heart’s 2007 Community Thanksgiving Feast. In two years, over 1,000 Giving Bags have found their way into the hands of many in the Greater Richmond Metropolitan area. This year-round project allows individuals, families and groups to help us continue providing small items to the needy, the elderly or the homeless visitors who come to our table each year. As we broaden this project to meet year-round needs, we will partner with other organizations to collaborate on ways to reach further into the community, serving those who would otherwise go without. How to Help: 1. Fill a bag with suggested appropriate items as listed below. 2. Contact us for drop-off instructions. Let us know if you have other donations, including bulk items, beyond what is listed for the giving bag needs. We are happy to assist in accepting and distributing other items. (Note: We strongly encourage using bags that can be used for other needs such as backpacks, duffel bags and recycled tote bags. These are especially effective for children and those within the homeless community.) Bag Suggestions: - Toothbrush/Paste - Deodorant - Shampoo - Mouthwash - Facial Wipes - Hat, gloves, scarf or socks - An optional item (if desired), such as band-aids, bus tickets, envelopes/stamps, stuffed animal, fast food or store gift certificate (appropriate for the intended recipient as noted below). Giving Bags Categories: Please label donations with a detachable note, identifying the intended recipient as described below. Our greatest need tends to be for the various Adult Giving Bags.
